Designing a CRM Around Independent Sales

Early concept for a lightweight CRM built around a salesperson's day, not a database schema. Prototyped the pipeline board and account drawer.

The Lead Engine answers “who should I talk to?” The next question is “what happens after?” That’s the CRM.

Most CRMs are designed from the database outward: objects, fields, reports. For an independent rep, that’s a lot of software in the way of a phone call.

I’m designing from the day inward:

  1. What do I need to do today?
  2. Where is each deal?
  3. What do I know about this account?

Built a clickable prototype with sample data: a pipeline board you can move deals across, an account drawer with notes, and a task list. No backend. Everything resets on reload. It’s for working out the workflow, not shipping.
